Share your story and help protect Alaska's BLM wild lands

The Bureau of Land Management is currently working on a management plan for Eastern Interior area including the White Mountains National Recreation Area, the Steese National Conservation Area (NCA), the Fortymile Area and Upper Black River.

If you’ve visited one (or more) of these areas, please share your stories!  The White Mountains, Steese, Fortymile Area and Upper Black River are well-loved and well-traveled destinations for Alaskans and visitors from around the world. We want your photos and stories to show the incredible value of these wild spaces. We’ll send them on to the BLM to help make the case for keeping these areas wild.

We want your photos, too!
If you have pictures from your trip that you're willing to share, please email them to akblmphotos@gmail.com as an attachment. Be sure to include your full name in your email so we can match your stories & photos. Be sure to use the form at the right to tell us your story, too!

Darcie's Story

Darcie Warden, our BLM Alaska Outreach Coordinator, tries to answer her call to “the wild” at least twice a year.  Last winter, Darcie and her son along with their two dogs skijored into the White Mountains.  With clear skies and no wind, they took their time on the trail to appreciate the vastness of the Eastern Interior.  These experiences shape us, create memories, build confidence, and connect us to the land and each other.
