Here's the message we'll deliver to the White House:
Dear President Barack Obama,
I urge you to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as a new National Monument.
The Arctic Refuge is our last great American wilderness - invaluable, iconic and alive! Big mammals still roam this land and millions of the world's birds feed and nest on the plains. They come here each year, seeking refuge from a world of encroaching hazards to receive their most sacred needs: sustenance and safe harbor for bearing their young. For more than 50 years, this cycle has remained unhindered by human development, so life in the Arctic Refuge has continued to thrive.
As we celebrate 50 years and counting of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, we must do everything we can to ensure this last wild haven remains for generations to come. More than 60 percent of Americans support the idea of placing the Refuge on par with other pristine areas such as the Grand Canyon and Yosemite. Your leadership can create a legacy for our country and for future generations. A National Monument designation is a fitting celebration of the past, present and future of this iconic American wilderness.
Thank you.
